Assignment of Benefits (AOB) is a legal agreement where a policyholder signs over their insurance claim rights and benefits to a third party, typically a contractor or water restoration company. While this allows the contractor to deal directly with the insurer, it has become a high-risk area due to litigation and fraud. Many states have recently passed laws restricting AOBs to protect homeowners from losing control over their claim settlements and payouts.
