Code Upgrades

« Back to Glossary Index

Code upgrades, also known as “Law and Ordinance” coverage, pay for the additional costs required to bring a damaged home up to modern building standards during repairs. For example, if a fire damages an older home, laws may require new fire-resistant wiring or upgraded insulation that wasn’t there before. Without this specific coverage, the homeowner would have to pay the difference between the “old” materials and the “new” mandatory code requirements out-of-pocket.
