Mitigate

« Back to Glossary Index

To mitigate is to take immediate, proactive steps to reduce the severity or spread of property damage following an accident or natural disaster. Mitigation is a mandatory requirement of your insurance contract. Examples include drying out a wet carpet to prevent mold, tarping a roof to stop rain, or boarding up windows to prevent theft. Successful mitigation is evidenced by “Before and After” photos and receipts for any emergency services hired to stabilize the home.
