Non-Renewal

« Back to Glossary Index

A non-renewal is a formal decision by a carrier to end an insurance contract at the expiration of the current term. Unlike a cancellation, which happens mid-term, a non-renewal is often a strategic business move by the insurer to reduce their exposure in high-risk geographic areas. While it can be stressful for the homeowner, it is not a reflection of their personal risk profile. It simply means the carrier is rebalancing its portfolio to ensure long-term financial stability.
